Microsoft has quietly announced that it is to discontinue support of its e-book app.
There will be no new content for the app after November 8, and the company will end support by 2012.
Users will continue to have indefinite access to their purchased content housed on their device, but Microsoft has no plans to offer an alternative app or help users migrate their content to another e-book reader.
Microsoft did not say why it had decided to discontinue the app, but with the rise in popularity of rival apps such as Amazon’s Kindle, the app has received little love and support from Microsoft. The last update for desktops came in 2007, whilst the last update for mobile devices was in 2009.
