@ Hidden Eloise, thank you for being gracious and not being upset with me for posting the images without asking. I committed something of a faux pas myself there!

I do indeed feel that you have been wronged, and while the designer should have known better and not copied your work she has at least come forward and apologised. As has been pointed out by many; Paperchase have known about this since late last year and did nothing (except brush you off) until their hand was forced by a very vocal twitter response. And still they drag their heels, no doubt hoping that it will all blow over.

Like Holly and Jess, I am seriously annoyed and disappointed with the way Paperchase have dealt with this as I have always been fond of their products too. I have my own stationary fetish, and have spent quite a lot of money there in the past. I very much doubt I will again unless I see something resembling an abject apology for not only selling a copied design (albeit unintentionally) or for attempting to undermine you by implying that there were falsehoods being told, and that the 'twitter storm' was somehow unfounded.

Hope some of that made sense, I generally doodle better than I write!

Sarah - I'm glad I'm not the only one whose been truly angered by this. I'm not an artist - but I work with artists and both my father and partner are artists of different kinds (potter and photographer respectively) - and it makes me see red when a company treats both artists and its customers in this way. I've sent several emails to Paperchase and have only ever received appallingly rude replies. I work in PR and marketing for an arts company and would *never* treat any complaint in this way, even if it was totally unjustified. In this case they've been proved wrong again and again, and yet they refuse to apologise for their behaviour. Certainly the last time that I will be shopping at Paperchase, and I've made it damn clear to my friends and family that I'll take a dim view of them if they go there again from now on!

Dear Sarah,

Thank you so much for writing this post and the support it carries with it.
I couldn't stand before the giant without all this kindness and generous help by people like you.

You spoke my mind in all matters you wrote about and thank you so much for doing research in my defence.
Indeed the great illustrators of the beginning of the (previous by now) century as well as Japanese print, ukiyoe and art nouveau are very close to my heat and always an inspiration.

Thank you again for all your support during this Paperchase saga.
Hoping something good can come out of this for all independent artists and makers.

Bear hugs,
Hidden Eloise

As a consumer the paperchase saga worries me. I'll be the first to admit I have a bit of a stationary issue and I simply adore(d) paperchase. Initially their error was a genuine one, they had no idea that the designer, KM, had traced a picture to pass off as her own. For that I give them sympathy, I really do - but that's where it ends. Their dealings with the matter have been appalling and quite frankly it's their reaction that has seen the end to mine, and many people's relationship with them.
