Monthly Archive for June, 2008

It’s Mrs now, but you can call me Sir…

Of Mice and Rings

So yup, the deed is done. On the 16th anniversary of the day we got together (21st June) , the man and I finally got married. Shocking huh?

Right now, I am sat in a Holiday Inn debating whether to take yet another power shower and starting to set up my new domain. I’m quite sure other people in here are wondering where the hell their bandwidth is going but I don’t care… I paid for these 50 free hours many many months ago and I intend to abuse them to the fullest while on my honeymoon. Well, technically we’re not really on our honeymoon yet, we fly out on Wednesday morning. But this is ‘family-time’.

I’m trying to avoid writing too much, as I need something to do on the plane. So keep an eye out for updates. I will also post a redirect to the new site when it’s ready to fly. So far the wordpress part of it is all working loverly. Got lots of space and oodles of bandwidth, watch out world!

Oh, I also got dragged in by the gravity well that is the Apple Store in MK and bought a bluetooth Mighty Mouse. For a few days I couldn’t work out why I actually bought the damn thing.. but now I’m sat here at a hotel desk, blogging and ftping at the same time… I’m kinda glad I did. It works really well and I never did really get the hang of the track pad.

Anyway, enuff of that. See you on the other side. :D

Forum Update

If you’re reading this because the forum is broken. I’m on the case, I have found a proper SQL file splitter now, so am uploading it in 1 meg chunks, all 75 of them.

Bear with me, should be sorted within an hour or so.

Update: 01:40am 17th June

Ok, more and more I’m starting to realise there is something fundamentally wrong that I cannot fix. Therefore until I have a word with my host about it I’m afraid the forum has ceased to exist.

There was already a problem with missing style sheets that I was alerted to, which led me to back up and download the database. It seems possible though, that whatever was wrong was carried into this backup.

However that does not explain why, if I completely delete the database and start from scratch with a fresh install of phpBB 3.01 that the issue is still there. There are no stylesheets and any attempt to post or go to the admin panel ends up in some sort of session error. As it stands I can’t administrate even the broken forum, so I am going to have to pull it down altogether for the foreseeable future.

I will of course, enquire about a backup. But if there is one, and it doesn’t work I’m not really sure where we go from here. To be blunt, I am getting married on Saturday, I have a metric crap-tonne of work to clear before then and I really don’t have time for this. I am just exceedingly grateful to Simon, the web host for getting the main site rescued.

As I said, I have tried to install a completely new forum and database to at least leave you with somewhere to post, but the problems are persisting. So I will be deleting this in a few minutes. I’m not going to put anything back up now until I’ve had a word with the host about it, because if a fresh install doesn’t work. There must be something else wrong other than the previously backed up database.

Update

Well I sat up till 3am in the end, and although I managed to get a working install from a fresh installation for some reasont the forums I created will not show up on the page. I suspect I will have to delete it yet again tonight.

Mesmer Commission and omg… 12 days..

Mesmer

So, in my last post I mentioned I was doing character portrait commissions. Well I finally managed to finish one, there is partial nudity though so if boobs bother you, your probably shoudln’t click on the “continue reading” link. This is Katherine, the Mesmer character of Unlucky Slayer from GWG ;)

I’m really enjoying this actually. I’m not really playing Guild Wars at all at the moment, what with workload and the wedding coming up, not to mention playing the odd bit of Age of Conan. I haven’t written a review of the game yet as I’m not entirely convinced by it just yet. Yes I know, all MMO launches are riddled with bugs, but I’m preplexed by some of the basic screw-ups in quests and the horrific lack of customer support. The latter being the one biggest problem of all really. I can live with the odd bug here and there, but since the last patch (five days ago now I think) there has been a complete gamebreaker that hasn’t been addressed (mostly a PvP issue it has to be said).

Also there’s some really woolly stats that seem to be either not working as intended or just plain pointless. I guess it’ll all come together, but the levelling is so fast that I’m worried after two months they’ll be sod all to do except search for crafting resources that are almost non existent.. or just roll an alt for the hell of it. Anyway, I did say I wasn’t going to review it didn’t I? Maybe later, when I’m flying out to NYC I’ll do one on my Macbook.. seeing as we’ll have over seven hours to kill.

Yup, less than two weeks to the wedding.. eek! So, the register office is all sorted, the flights paid for, I’ve trnasferred the money into our joint account that I want to get our dollar$ with. The car hire is sorted for going to my parents and his after the wedding.. hotel is booked. There is one thing I haven’t sorted out yet and that is WTF am I going to wear… Me and the hubster are going clothes shopping this week sometime, not something I particularly enjoy doing. Oh and I need to get a new bag, my FCUK one is erm… FCUKed. Been thinking about getting one of these but it doesn’t look like there’s much room for anything except the Macbook.. so maybe not. I’m not too sure what I’m going to do about it yet, I want to carry it with me rather than leave it in the hotel but to be honest even this weeny little thing gets heavy pretty quick. Please do not suggest that abomination Macbook Air… ludicrous object that it is.
