Just Give Me Money…

That’s what I want.

My blog is worth $12,984.42.
How much is your blog worth?

Wanna buy it? Cos I’m flamin’ skint.

Carpets and curtains are not included, and the resident rat likes to eat spam.

Oh why do I never learn not to click on a link that Warren Ellis posts with the title “Don’t Look”.

Sky Blue / Wonderful Days

…finally makes it to R2 dvd, but is it mighty?

No, not really. But it’s certainly purty in places.

Set in a dystopic future (oh stop yawning, do) where the sky has been obscured by dirty clouds and acid rain for a hundred years, Sky Blue is an animated film from Korea in a very Japanese vein. Right down to the obsession with post apocalyptic vistas and master & servant tensions, oh and the ecological message as well, of course.

The film centers around the conflict between the haven city of Ecoban, an enclosed and hi-tec environment protected from the deadly elements and the people who were left to survive outside in the polluted wastelands. This conflict is shown primarily (actually it’s pretty much exclusively) in a tragic love triangle between the three main characters – a young female security officer, Jay, her childhood sweetheart Shua; who has become an ‘eco-terrorist’ of sorts and her direct superior, who has a dark secret connected to Jay’s past.

RSS and Images

Not going to be an illo friday entry from me this week I think. I was going to submit the Lyra image, but it’s unfinished and probably won’t be before the end of the week.

For anyone reading the blog via RSS, I’ve decided to restrict it to image free summaries for the time being. I’ve noticed the blog has started cropping up in some of these ‘filter’ sites, that republish other people’s blog posts by using the RSS feed to input them.

Now, I get the point of these sort of sites. They can drive traffic to artist’s sites and can be a form of free promotion, as well as a handy way for people to find art, or specific types of art, online. But there’s also a few issues, not least being the bandwidth. A look at my referral logs this morning shows me that one particular ‘filter site’ has hit my server over 500 times in the last week, each time including posts that have artwork on that sit on my site. Now, each of these posts does have the title as a permalink back to the post, as that’s how the titles in wordpress (and most other blogging apps) work, but that’s it. No copyright is claimed for the work, but by the very nature of most people’s sites copyright notices are usually in the footer and not individual posts, so a lot of this work is being ‘filtered’ minus copyright info.

This isn’t a bitchy ‘stop stealing my work’ type post, in fact I think it’s a pretty good idea to make data available in one easy chunk. But right now, and knowing from my referral logs how much stuff is being ripped (Myspace.com being far and away the worst offender), disabling images in RSS seems to be the safest option. I don’t want to start putting a massive watermark on images, as 99% of the images posted in the blog also form part of my online portfolio.

Better go and do some work now.
