RIP Sketchbook One

It’s gone. I’ve spent pretty much all day erasing links, logs, emailing spammers, adding security fixes and adjusting templates. Somewhere along the line the ‘edit category’ field decided to disallow me from adding a message in to Sketchbook One to say why commenting has been disabled, and all the form buttons disappeared and the template went batso. The only choice left was to delete it and start again, and I haven’t got the energy to root out all the work that was in there. Ho hum, you gotta laugh I guess.

Been watching Channel Fours 100 top films in the UK measured by bums on seats. The ‘Ultimate film’ is apprently Gone With the Wind. Well there weren’t too many dvd players around in the 1930s..

Oh and for some weird reason, the Technorati link keeps alternately showing the balloon and my profile photo, despite me deleting said pic from the site and setting it up to show as a text link. zzzzZZZZzzzzzz.

Ooohhhh. As an addendum to the above, this may actually prove to be a blessing in disguise. I found a big wedge of paper last night of characters and building roughs that are perfect for the sketchbooks. So a scanning spree may well be on the cards later!

Rhinoceros

Well I finished the underpainting on the Brian Haberlin tutorial. I would’ve posted it earlier today (I’ll cover that in a minute). I’m 37 today.. Jesus.. I can remember as a kid working out how old I’d be in the year 2000 and thinking it was inconceivable that I’d ever be 32 and now here I am with 40 to look forward to. Have I done anything useful with my life? Doubtful. Have I travelled? Hardly. At least I had fairly low expectations anyway, I never thought I’d be jammy enough to earn a living from being an artist.. so it hasn’t been all bad.

I’m not too disappointed with it, I got a bit bored by the last tenth, itching to start on the colour. I’ve also overworked it and made it “too slick” as my other half pointed out.. bad habit of mine that. I won’t bother linking to a hi-res version until I’ve finished the colour.

In other news [insert big sigh] , I was seriously on the verge of sacking off the entire site this morning. The spammer has really got to me now and sorry but I am going to swear here, I’m seriously fucking tired of it. I spent ages last night adding IPs to the ban list in my site Cpanel, because everytime I ban one they use a different one and I have to start again. My referral log is just stuffed to the gills with their shit now. Even though it’s not a public one. Then this morning I get an email asking to approve one comment… so get this, this lowlife actually manually made a comment on an old post and pasted about 40/50 links in the one comment. Get a life you sad bastard and stop trading on other people’s insecurities by posting links to quack sites pushing diet pills. Not to mention porn and poker.

It’s not just that though, this asswipe has gone onto my sketchbooks now as well. I’ve had to delete christknowshowmany links this morning out of the comments. I’ve now disabled commenting on the sketchbooks completely. I figure over the last few days I’ve deleted around 500 links/comments and banned about twenty IPs.

Mostly I’m just sick of whinging about it.

Yeh, you know who you are. This is the ip (?) that’s trying in vain to cover my blog with it’s stench. Having lost the battle with the comments it’s now trying (I think) to use trackback and pingback to fill my blog up with links. Ha… you know what, it doesn’t work you foo’. I’m not even sure why but it’s not. I Googled the above and it seems it’s hitting other logs as well. With varying degrees of success. Hopefully if I ban the ip that’ll be the end of it.

In other news, I’ve been doing a Brian Haberlin ’smudge painting’ tutorial. The above is the Work-in-Progress. It’s not going bad so far.
