..side of death. Just before you draw your terminal breath..
Ho hum. Just singing to the forum…arf ! The good news is that I’ve got a backup done from the admin panel on 19th October, the bad news is I don’t think I can restore it without an admin panel to do it from..teehee. I think this may end up in me doing a fresh install once/if I get the forum up and running again. I’ll save out all the data I need and load up into a virgin forum. Then I can redo all the mods and stuff on 2.06. I needed to upgrade anyway, so I guess the old egg and scramble cliche comes in here somewhere.
Seeing as I can’t get into said den of iniquity I’ll type my thoughts on The Return of the King Soundtrack here…

I like it, it’s a grower I think, and there’s some hauntingly beautiful stuff in it. On a vacuous note, I got the Aragorn / Legolas insert, which is quite amusing as last time I got Gollum / Legolas. I don’t even fancy Orli either. Fer shame.
The intro is a bit wobbly and there’s definitely a feeling that Shore was starting to struggle to arrange the themes in a new way, but the passage that’s in the trailer is just as lovely here, although it doesn’t finish with anything like as much of a crescendo as the trailer music does. I expect that’s one for the super dooper uber 3 disc sypmphony set. Appropos of nothing, I made a playlist of the three cds at work yesterday, added the 6 minute Requiem for a Dream remix at the beginning of each album and ended up with a playlist that heftied in at over four hours. That kept me going for a bit..
It could be just me but there seems to be more horns, not the blaring type, but nice subtle soulful stuff. I guess it has to be really, considering the content..Also, and of course I know I’m biased, but Billy Boyd has a lovely voice *nips off to check something* , aye yeh thought so, Strong Tenor / Light Baritone Voice F# to A above middle C over 2 octaves (according to his website). Viggo’s bit is mighty fine too, lovely soft voice, almost coherent as well… Anyway, I’m no musician but it sounds pretty good to me. I think I still lean towards The Two Towers though for the wonderful music during the charge of the Rohirrim. (How Steep??!!)
So what else? Not a great day all round really, I seemed to have non-opposable thumbs at work today, and so I’m going to have do a bit at home this weekend I think. Some days it just don’t happen. Oh yeh, it was my birthday this week (go me!), which is where the soundtrack came from, from my ever thoughtful and wonderful better half. Also got Lyra’s Oxford by Philip Pullman.
I wouldn’t normally paste in an image this big, but it’s hard to see the wonderful woodcut-style illustration on the front cover with a thumbnail. The book is cloth bound, and a real delight. Can’t wait to get me nose in it tonight.

I just finished re-reading Northern Lights, still a great read though I think The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass were better. I don’t think my emotions can stand the thought of the last two chapters of TAS right now…..
Oh well. I suppose I ought to get some sleep. I’ll try and see if I get any further tomorrow, though external help is probably going to be the only thing that saves me this time. Honest guv’s I weren’t modding or anyfink, just editing a load of images into text links when it all spiralled off. Don’t forget guys, you can leave me a message in the shoutbox on the right or use the comments form at the end of each blog, just click on ‘comments’ and use it in the same way. I think you can get more text in there if you want, there’s no smileys but it does have the benefit of being tucked nicely away. xxx
